What surprised me most about this week's AWS outage is how many managers viewed it as a natural disaster. It just happened, it will happen again, and there is nothing you can do about it. Yet, it is not. In contrast to a hurricane or earthquake, it is much easier to remove single vendor failure points. Plus, no company would have accepted the same incident from its own infrastructure. Thus, we shouldn't give Amazon a pass.
